Naturally, it is advantageous for foreign children living in Prague to develop an understanding of the Czech language during their stay at Park Lane. Our Czech as an Additional Language (CAL) programme enables our international pupils to learn and develop their knowledge of Czech. Students will have five CAL lessons per week in their timetable. This will give the students more opportunities to learn even Czech grammar and use the language practically. There will be three lessons a week focused on developing students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. In addition to this, there will be two lessons focused on practical tasks, projects and trips that will enrich the topics covered in the Czech grammar lessons.
The reason for this is simple. We offer an extra challenge to the students who want to take the A1 and A2 level exams for non-native Czech speakers. All students will follow the Common European Framework for languages during the school year. Y6 students will then have a chance to take the A1 exam and Y8-Y9 students will take the A2 exam. Students will be able to sign up for their exams in September when you can also discuss all options with their CAL teachers. More information about the exams can be found here:
